We hope this update finds you well as you adapt to our new world and all that is required of us to remain safe. As promised, we have another update regarding taxes and filing your 2019 tax return/s.
The State of Oregon today put out guidance today about filing 2019 state tax returns and payment. The State of Oregon has agreed to automatically extend the filing of 2019 personal income tax returns to 7/15/2020. The Oregon tax payment deadline for a 2019 personal income tax return will also be extended to 7/15/2020. Both extensions are automatic and require no formal request for an extension. If you need additional time to file beyond the 7/15/2020 date, then a formal request is required to receive a 10/15/2020 filing deadline. Please let us know if you would like one and we will make that happen.
Additionally, here are a few answers to questions that are being asked:
Estimated Tax Payments – Any Federal or State estimated tax payments for 2020 are still due on their regularly scheduled dates of 4/15, 6/15, 9/15 and 1/15/2021.
Payroll Reports – Both Federal and State quarterly payroll report filing dates have NOT been extended. 4/30/2020 is still your date for submission.
Payment Plans – If you currently have a Federal and/or a State payment plan in place for a prior year/s tax liability, there have been NO changes to payment dates. Your plan remains in place and you must continue making timely payments.
Even with the extension of time to file and pay your 2019 tax return we are still moving tax returns through our office to completion. If you are due a refund the only way to receive it is to get filed. We can get you filed right away and move your refund one step closer. Keep in mind that the Oregon State Kicker refund is still available too. If you have questions regarding how to get us your information for filing purposes, please see our previous email or Facebook posts. It’s easy.
If you are a business owner please be aware that we are hosting a virtual meeting to address many of the new rules, programs, credits and dates passed by the Congress and the State in response to the virus. Much of this legislation is time-sensitive so look for an email invite to the 3/30/2020 meeting at 9:00 am. You are going to want this information.
We wish you well. Be safe. We will get through this together.
Your Merit Team,
Rod, Tiffany, Angie, Teresa, Rebekah and Jessica
